The Hollies

Project Details
The Hollies is a heritage-led residential project focused on the repair, adaptation, and sensitive extension of a listed house, together with the conversion of the existing garage annex, to create a practical and sustainable family home while safeguarding the building’s historic significance.
The listed house sits at the centre of the proposals and is treated as the principal heritage asset. The strategy responds to constraints within the historic layout that limited flexibility for modern family living, and therefore focuses on carefully considered internal reorganisation, improved circulation, and targeted interventions that enhance usability without eroding character or significance.
The garage annex conversion forms an important supporting element of the scheme. Its reuse provides additional accommodation in a manner that is clearly ancillary to the main house, allowing space to be gained without overburdening the listed building itself. The scale, design, and use of the annex have been shaped to remain subordinate, ensuring that the hierarchy of buildings on the site is preserved.
From a planning perspective, the project was presented as a coherent and integrated scheme, demonstrating that the listed house works and the garage annex conversion are interdependent in achieving a viable and balanced outcome. This holistic approach allowed the proposals to be assessed on their collective merits rather than as isolated changes.
