Arrol Green is a multidisciplinary architectural design practice based in Shrewsbury, specialising in the sensitive repair, adaptation, and reimagining of historic and listed buildings. With a collaborative team of specialists, the practice brings together decades of experience in architecture, conservation, project management, and building technology.
Each member contributes a unique skill set, enabling Arrol Green to deliver creative, practical, and heritage-focused solutions across a diverse range of projects throughout Shropshire and beyond.
Creative
Andrew Arrol – Senior Consultant
Andrew Arrol is one of the UK’s most respected historic-building architects, with a lifelong career dedicated to the conservation, repair and understanding of complex heritage structures. A RIBA Chartered Architect and AABC accredited specialist, he has worked across many of the nation’s most significant Grade I, Grade II* and Scheduled Monument sites, with deep expertise in medieval masonry, archaeological methodology and conservation planning.
Over several decades, Andrew has contributed to a wide range of demanding heritage projects, producing conservation strategies, quinquennial inspections, archaeological reports and technical guidance that have shaped best practice across the sector. His work is widely recognised by Historic England, Cathedral Fabric Advisory Committees and heritage professionals for its rigour, sensitivity and commitment to traditional craft and fabric-first principles.
Although Andrew is now formally retired, he remains closely connected to Arrol Green and continues to work with us on a project-by-project basis. His insight, guidance and experience underpin our approach to complex heritage commissions, and he is an instrumental mentor to our team as we continue to deliver sensitive, conservation-led projects.
Rob Green – Senior Consultant
Rob is a Senior Consultant at Arrol Green with nearly forty years of experience in architectural design, historic-building conservation and heritage-led project delivery. After leaving Shrewsbury School, Rob moved to Oxford where he gained a BA (Hons) in Architectural Studies allowing him to develop a strong technical foundation in design, construction methodologies and historic-fabric behaviour before shaping his professional career in both Oxford and London. Rob joined the practice (formerly Arrol Architects) in 1989 and has since played a central role in many of its most ambitious conservation and adaptive-reuse projects.
Rob leads our creative team and provides a clear, fabric-first design philosophy grounded in deep practical experience. Over his tenure he has led teams responsible for multiple award-winning schemes, including nationally recognised conservation and heritage projects, notably spending nearly 10 years as a key team member of the £22m Lincoln Castle Revealed project.
Having worked alongside Andrew Arrol for over 40 years, Rob provides an essential continuity of method, technical insight and conservation principles, ensuring that Arrol Green’s approach remains consistent, rigorous and aligned with best practice
Stephen Sedwell – Conservation Architect
Stephen is an ARB Registered Architect and is also included on the Register of Architects Accredited in Building Conservation (AABC). He brings many years of hands-on experience in historic building conservation, having worked both independently and alongside specialist teams across a wide range of heritage projects.
Stephen holds an MSc. in Building Conservation with Stonework Specialisation and is also a qualified stonemason. Having developed an early and practical understanding of traditional materials and construction techniques, forming a strong foundation for his later academic and professional work, enabling him to combine craft-based knowledge with a high level of technical and analytical expertise.
Stephen plays a key role within the practice, contributing across all stages of heritage projects, from early assessment and conservation strategy through to detailed design and delivery on site. His approach is grounded in a clear understanding of historic fabric, ensuring that all interventions are carefully considered, technically appropriate, and aligned with recognised conservation best practice.
Greg Day – Architectural Technician
Greg is an architectural technician with around 35 years of experience across residential, commercial, landscaping and urban design projects. His background includes senior roles with national house builders, including Bovis Homes, regional practices and major public-sector schemes. With extensive experience in master planning and technical delivery, Greg was part of the design team for the Black Country Museum Historic Development plan
Greg is skilled in both traditional hand-drawing and modern software, including AutoCAD and ArchiCAD, enabling him to produce clear, accurate design and technical information. At Arrol Green, he supports project delivery through RIBA Stages 4–6 with detailed design and technical coordination across a wide range of projects.
Joshua Greenwood – Architectural Assistant
Josh has a love of design and is dedicated to influencing the built environment. Having successfully completed his BA (Hons) in Architecture at Birmingham City University he joined the Arrol Green team. Josh continues to advance his education with the aim of achieving full ARB accreditation and is in the process of completing his Part II qualification.
His attention to detail and growing expertise in architectural design help to support the team via CAD documentation, measured surveys and technical drawings, contributing to the accurate and efficient preparation of project documentation across all RIBA stages.
Aimee Florian – Architectural Assistant
Aimee is currently studying for her Master of Architecture degree in Liverpool. Detail-orientated with over five years of experience in residential and commercial architecture, she has contributed to a wide range of projects including cafes, leisure facilities, farm shops and housing developments.
Her strong technical skill set, along with her experience in historic buildings and conservation-led design, help to create plans for the adaptive re-use of existing buildings using the latest advances in technology. When not working, Aimee enjoys reading, painting and going to the gym.
Management
Stephen Owen – Practice Manager
Stephen, originally from Shrewsbury, spent over twenty-five years as a director of an engineering and software company in Canada where he developed strong skills in project management, problem-solving and technical expertise.
Having returned to the UK, Stephen has helped to reshape Arrol Green to become a more forward thinking and well-organised practice. The integration of advanced technologies has strengthened the systems of the studio allowing a more streamlined process for the RIBA-stage workflows, tender processes and beyond, while still maintaining the core heritage factor the Arrol Green name is synonymous with.
Stephen manages the day-to-day functionality of the practice while also overseeing all projects. This focus ensures the team work with a unified and cohesive approach
Jessica Hayes – Finance & Procurement
Jess has spent over twenty years as an international buyer for a wide-ranging mix of companies, sourcing from all over the world and importing predominantly to the UK. Financial planning and optimisation is fundamental to the procurement process, as much as the every day needs of the business.
Jess manages the finances of the practice along with providing wider administrative support to the team, helping to maintain clear workflows and concise, organised project documentation. She also offers support to our clients with their purchasing requirements and specifications once their planning permission is granted.

- AABC Architects: specialist conservation oversight and certification. Also supporting the practice with Quinquennial Inspections, Heritage Impact Assessments and Heritage Funding Applications
- CIfA Archaeologists: Written Schemes of Investigation, Desk-based Assessments, Watching Briefs, Recordings, Heritage Impact Assessments
- Land Surveys: offering both drone and land-based surveys to enable topographic, elevation and condition mapping. Safe Contractor accredited
- Arboriculture, Biodiversity Net Gain, Ecology, Forestry: fully detailed surveys by qualified professionals to ascertain natural elements which may impact on projects progressing and advising of optimal approaches
- Quantity Surveyors: supporting cost control, tendering and funding documentation for both private and public sector projects
This collaborative framework allows Arrol Green to offer clients a single route from initial survey and analysis through to design, planning approval and on-site delivery.
