73 Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury

73 Wyle Cop was one of the first of many repairs to buildings on this town-centre street at the heart of the Shrewsbury Conservation Area, Arrol and Snell was commissioned to completely overhaul the building in order to both reinstate its high-street presence and to improve the functionality of its internal spaces.

Repairs to the exterior included extensive timber-frame and fenestration repairs, the design of which was based on archaeological research carried out by the practice. The design for the new shop is sensitive to the shop’s setting and demonstrates Arrol and Snell’s interest in traditional shop front design within the town.

Internally, the practice completed both the shop fit out and divided the upstairs areas into flats, maximising the space within a complex, medieval structure.
